Was just relating to a friend the camera angles of the Mermaid POTC flick for posing and it occurred to me that while my appreciation of that flick is useful, perhaps I need to know more of them......especially when talking to my young mermaid models.

So what other ones are there? I don't mean "The Little Mermaid" for that is a cartoon (and a child one at that) but actual acting and photography like

POTC: On Stranger Tides
Splash!
The King's Daughter

What others?

It depends on how strict you want to be with your definition of "mermaid." But two I'd recommend:

ONDINE. Good movie, though it probably doesn't have what you're looking for.

THE SECRET OF ROAN INISH. Great movie. An under appreciated classic. But it's actually about selkies, not mermaids.

I've heard that Stephen Chow's THE MERMAID from 2016 is really good, but I haven't seen it.

Thank you!

As it is, Ondine I have. The box looked familiar and checking my orders, I was sold it years ago. Will have to find it in the library. ........and they sold me The Secret of Roan Inish as well in the same time period so another one to look for in the library. I will have to look for the third one.

For my purposes, selkies are acceptable.

Thank you for pointing out the error of my conclusion on that series. I will see if it is possible.

Then SECRET OF ROAN INISH is a must-see. One of my all-time favorite movies. It is the gold standard for how to do live action myths and fairy tales. Acting is without reproach (and the lead, a child actor, had never acted before --- or since as far as I know). Writing is flawless. It is beautifully directed. The score is phenomenal. And it will tug at your heart strings. I'm a crusty old grump, and the last ten minutes of this movie always makes me cry.

How about the 1948 British film, Miranda? I liked this one.

A young married physician discovers a mermaid, and gives in to her request to be taken to see London. Comedy and romantic entanglements ensue soon after.

A trip down memory lane, a mermaid thing I saw on TV in the 60s. It MIGHT have been an episode of Flipper but I doubt it. Not much in memory but a teenage boy and the mermaid was a teen tawny blonde and towards the end, I guess with the rest of the humans convinced him that Mermaids aren't real, she is at their floating dock, squirts a stream of water at his back, she smiles and.....(disappears into the depths?). Does anyone recognize this?

There was the Australian tv series "H20 just add water" that might count, it was produced by the same producers who did the series "Ocean Girl".

As things go......saw it and went after it. As things go, when I talked yesterday to one of my lead mermaid models yesterday, she had not heard of it......but maybe she soon will.

Thank you!
