I finally got around to watching this. It has a 7.7 on IMDB, and that is definitely being generous. This is a 6/10 at best.
I don't get why this movie is so hyped, and I don't get why it is considered a cult classic. Sure, Willem Dafoe is good. But it looks like a cheap made for tv movie. And I don't get the comparison to Tarantino. This does not feel anything like a Tarantino movie. More like some college kids were given some paper to complete their first film, and this is what they came up with.
It had some entertaining spots. But there was a half hour stretch in the middle where it completely ran out of gas, and I was struggling to stay awake for the end.
This would have worked better as a netflix miniseries than a movie.
I've always enjoyed the movie, thought it was entertaining , with some dark humor. Watched it several times, although it's probably been 10 years since the last viewing. I see they are making another one ? I thought there was a sequel, and it really wasn't that good.
There are three of them, and they are planning a fourth. Also, a book series is planned as well.
