I have noticed this with TCM in particular, where they run obscure (and often provocative) films at this time of the morning. I sometimes DVR them; my DH was shocked to find me watching recordings of John Waters films (Polyester, Pink Flamingos) one morning. "This was on TCM?" he kept asking. He hardly considered it suitable breakfast fare.
Many of the pre-code films from the 1930s are on in the morning. It's amazing how they could discuss/show these types of topics at that time.
We just watched the current film "Jules." Absolutely superb. Sweet. There's a role by Jane Curtin who was a player on Saturday Night Live. She sings! A wonderful scene. Ben Kingsley plays the lead role--a terrific actor. Very worth watching this sleeper film!!
Liv was in another Great Movie......Armageddon......I watched it several times.
And, Stealing Beauty, a Bertolucci film from '96. Adult themes, beautifully shot, very different plot. Liv was 16 & a very good actress. With Jeremy Irons & his wife, Sinead Cusack & an equally young Joseph Fiennes & Rachel Weisz in small roles.
i don't pay much attention to awards and what critics think. I'd call it a sleeper because nobody watches it now.
LOL. Every single youtuber who does "movie reactions" has watched 12 Angry Men, which means a lot of their Patreon members are asking them to. But "nobody watches it now". OK.
The In-Laws (1979), starring Peter Falk and Alan Arkin. I had never heard of it until a few years ago, and it is now one of our favorites. Falk stars as a secret agent who pulls Arkin's mild mannered dentist into his wacky adventures. So hilarious!
"Serpentine, Sheldon!"
