Good call.
I do think he is a talented actor who takes advantage of chances to "stretch."
The guy has acted alongside Harrison Ford and Jack Nickolson in movies, and he not only held his own, he showed 'em up in a few scenes. Really underrated actor.
Gillian Anderson was so convincing in Bleak House. She, along with Laurie Metcalf and Ralph Fiennes should be in more major movies. Greg Kinnear was great in Little Miss Sunshine.
Other underrated actors are:
Benecio Del Toro, 21 Grams, Traffic. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for 21 Grams but didn’t win.
Colin Firth, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, and a whole host of other movies.
Jeffrey Wright, Manchurian Candidate, Rent etc. Although he did win an Emmy for Best Actor in Angels in America, an HBO mini-series, he’s not a household name nor is he on the *A* list.

Antonio Banderas is actually a very talented actor and not given nearly the credit I feel he deserves. This is partially his own doing due to choosing more popcorn fare in American cinema, but I feel even in these roles, whether it be in "Spy Kids" or "Desperado" or "Assassins", he gives incredibly nuanced performances and shows a surprising range and has actually very good comic timing. Of course, he's long been recognized in Spanish cinema as one of their premier actors but his films with Pedro Almodovar remain largely unknown to American audiences.
Getting some attention now for his performance as Johnny Cash, but he blew me away with his portrayal of Commodus in Gladiator.
