My wife and I went to the movies one night and saw a bunch of teenaged movies, and this one. We decided to take a chance on it.
We started out thinking, "Oh great. It's going to be a like Weekend At Bernies." But, instead, it was a movie about kindness. It really was an incredibly beautiful and funny film.
I loved it. A movie about the kindness of others and generosity of spirit, fear, loneliness and social inadequacy.
That was my "review" for it when it came out :
I saw this movie at the week-end and I thought it was one of the best movies I had seen in a long time.
The acting was utterly superb from all concerned, the script handled with a deftness of touch rarely seen at the movies nowadays and I found it utterly charming, bitter-sweet and so touching.
Ryan Gosling shone with his depiction of lonely and awkward Lars and his cringe-worthy character was drawn with such affection and gentleness. Mental illness, delusion and psychological damage and trauma became a perfect vehicle for this delightful cinematic offering.
What on paper sounded like a ridiculous and odd idea for a film actually turned out to be an uplifting and poignant look at loneliness and fear.
I saw it recently and absolutely loved it! Ryan Gosling can do no wrong, IMO. All the actors in the movie seemed made for their parts. Very sweet and moving...
It's really kind of an amazing movie. Very different.
Anybody?
Yeah, I saw it. It was quirky funny in spots, but overall very sad I thought. I loved the cold winter theme of the movie and the score. They set the stage for such a melancholy subject. I really did like the movie.
