Just watched this and and highly recommend it. Many European movies frustrate me with their lack of a coherent plot and satisfying ending but not this one. Made in Sweden, is a very interesting murder mystery, a "cold case" of a girl who went missing 40 years ago and presumed dead.
Good story, interesting characters and an ending that makes sense.

I liked it too.
I actually preferred it to the book.
It was well-edited, I could understand everything that happened, and the acting was convincing.

Did not know it was produced as a movie
Just started reading the book, confusing at first but making sense as I get into it.
I'll have to see the movie when I'm done.

I have posted this elsewhere in this site:

IMHO, the 1st movie (Swedish version) was shot and edited as a old school Film Noir mystery.

2nd Swedish Movie (Girl who Played with Fire) was shot and edited as a 1960's European made spy thriller / action movie. ("Ipcress File", or "Funeral in Berlin" for example.)

3rd Movie should be starting to make the rounds in USA late this fall. I could be wrong, as IMO, the DVD sales potential for the 1st and 2nd Sub-titled Swedish versions during Xmas time would be huge, unless the windup 3rd movie started the movie house runs before thanksgiving and killed the DVD sales. (cause eveyone would want the buy the 3 DVD set insteadl.)

I would definitely like to have the 3 DVD set.
I haven't seen any for sale, though (not that I've really looked.)
I saw the first one on Netflix streaming.

David Fincher is making an American version. His involvement aside, I am sure it won't be as good as the Swedish one. I am not a film snob by any means, but I don't see much room for improvement here.

I disagree, the book actually explains a little more and makes more sense. Lizbeth expresses her opinion of Harriett's actions regarding her father and Martin. The books, in my opinion are definitely better than the movies, but the movies are nothing to be ashamed of either.

The American Version will never be as good.

All 3 versions have played here and we are not a hotbed of au courant movies. I read all 3 books and liked the movies as well. The scenery is gorgeous and the movies are faithful to the main plots.

The only thing the American version will have is Daniel Craig, I am assuiming as Kalle Blomqvuist.
