I actually agree with both Harry and delusianne about the film's themes.
I looked at Jon Voight's character as the hero, but back in the 70's, it was all about anti-heros, which to me, is what he was. Definitely he and the other guys would be haunted by what happens on and off the river.

IMDB for all your movie needs.

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)

The movie came out when I was too young to see it and I still haven't after all these years, but between all the Deliverance jokes I've just always assumed what it was about...someday I'll rent it

Agree about IMDB...I use it constantly, especially if we are watching something and someone is recognizable in the movie that I just can't place, IMDB is good for that!

Classic 1972 Boorman film. Bottom line is when people say "deliverance" references they are speaking about sub culture "backwoods" environments! It would be made in overtones of "being in the worst possible situation (in this case backwoods with people totally different from their own. Not a good situation to be in.

Default Pile of crap movie!

If you have not seen this movie and want to still enjoy a hike through a wilderness area, then don't rent it!!!!!!

Stereotypical assumptions (scenes) about southern mountain families and city dwellers out for adventure.

You'd be better off not watching if you aren't into movies about first time prison experiences for small men!!!!!!! (Big spoiler and hint).

You can't enjoy nature walks because of Deliverance? Weird.

It's a story, not an assumption.

That's not what the movie is "about". If this kind of thing freaks you out, yeah, don't watch. But how does that make it a "pile of crap"?
