Ghost Story scared me and I had even read the book before I saw the movie so I knew what was coming.
Also, an oldie, House on Haunted Hill, the original. Yikes!!
'Salem's Lot.
Another oldie from the late 60s or early 70s is "The Boogans." I waited a long time for that one to come out on video.
The Car with a very young James Brolin.
Wolfen
From the Dead of Night (aka Walkers) with Lindsay Wagner and Bruce Boxleitner. It was a miniseries on TV back in the day. It is available on VHS but you have to look for it. It is excellent. Really scary.
Ghost Story
Interview with a vampire
Psycho (original movie)
Bram Stokers "Dracula" not that scary but I liked it.
From Dusk till Dawn (funny, scary somewhat R rated at times during the movie)
The Exorcist
As for children viewing, check clips from you tube you can judge.
Saturday Night we had our first Halloween marathon...The Evil Dead series! I have a 13 year old sister in law who did not know who Bruce Campbell was, now she does and imitates him!!!
Gotta show these younguns what REAL horror is!
At the next 3 marathons it will look something like this:
We already had a thread for my *favorite* kinds of scary movies, the subtle ones that thrill and chill without a whole lot of screaming and gore. Scary but not gory movies
With Halloween approaching, perhaps some of you have movies, gory or not, that you always have on hand.
We used to always watch:
The Shining ~~ slow build-up of terror in Estes Park--those twins!
redrum redrum...
Lady in White The year is 1962. The place is Willowpoint Falls. Nobody talks about what happened in the school cloakroom 10 years ago. Now, in the dead of night, Frankie Scarlatti is going to find out why.
It seems like a kid's movie until you see what happened in the cloakroom.
This indie movie's few special effects are cheesy, but fortunately it relies more on plot, character, and mystery.
Rediscovered:
There is a movie I saw years and years ago (1980 or '81) that always haunted me. It too is more of a psychological story, set in a crumbling estate (Scottish?) at the turn of the century.
However, there is definitely a ghost. For years the title eluded me but yesterday it just came to me out of the blue: The Haunting of M
There is a suspenseful rocking chair scene in that film that had me on the edge of my seat. The director did much with very little.
Anyone else have Halloween favorites?
A more recent film that really freaked me out........"Jeepers Creepers"......when dressed as a human, "he" really creeped me out......need a good scare....watch this and remember to have the volume turned up a bit as soon as it starts.....
