The whole movie is on YouTube in numerous parts...I highly recommend it.
One of the first movies about mental illness and the asylums they put these poor people into.

Another obscure favorite of mine is: BIRDY, starring Nicholas Cage and Matthew Modine. It's about a friend trying to save his buddy(a bird lover) from mental illness after they both served in the Army in Vietnam. Fantastic and little known movie.

And last; but not least a movie from 1977, called OUTRAGEOUS....about a mentally ill young woman and her female impersonator friend, and their life struggles. His impersonations are hysterical...like his Betty Davis impersonation.
