2001: A Space Odyssey
Casablanca
Citizen Kane
The General
The Graduate The Grapes of Wrath
Groundhog Day Harold and Maude
The Quiet Man
The Sting Vertigo (Most Hitchcock really)
Not all the above are without flaw, the first one I actively dislike, but in those cases I think they're so "of their time" it'd be almost impossible to remake them. (I was really tempted to add The Manchurian Candidate and The Day the Earth Stood Still even though I know they did in fact remake them)
Some shouldn't be remade because they're offensive now or the issues are largely irrelevant today.

The Birth of a Nation Imitation of Life
The movie *Moon* is very similar to the movie *2001: A Space Odyssey*
Any of those old Blondie & Dagwood movies that starred Arthur Lake & Penny Singelton from the 40's.
True the Blondie comic strip still appears in the papers today, though I have to admit its been awhile since I had checked it out, but those movies with Mr. Dithers the boss having this tight control over Dagwood even out of the office, not too mention Dagwood kept getting fired and re-hired and fired and re-hired..well how often does THAT happen in the business world of say the last 30 or so years?
I don't think I have come across a remake that was better than the original. Normally remakes are quite disappointing.
What is the point of a remake anyway?
