3D Movies - Wave of the Future? (films, Hollywood, action)

I thought about this since I saw Alice in Wonderland as a regular movie, then saw it again in 3D. It just blew out of the screen and came alive in 3D. I also really enjoyed The Christmas Carole in 3D.

I like the way these movies don't pop out at you, but you feel like you are in the middle of a live play.

Do you think 3D movies will be the wave of the future since it is one way Hollywood can compete with so many free internet bootlegged movies and made for television movies?

I wasn’t impressed when I saw “Bwana Devil“ and “House of Wax” in 3D back in the 50’s.
And I wasn’t impressed at the attempts to revive 3D over the years.
I don’t expect this new 3D push to be anymore than a temporary gadget craze that will soon fall by the wayside - remember Quadraphonic Audio?

But then again, even though Quad Audio was a failure, it did lay the groundwork for Surround Sound.
So maybe something will come out of this current interest in 3D, but I’m not counting on it.

Loved the movie Up, but was underwhelmed with the 3D.
Enjoyed 3D in other movies, though, like Beowulf and Avatar.
Don't like paying extra for it.
I dunno, maybe Fat Freddy's right and it will lead to something else.
Right now my reaction is mixed.

I think it will eventually fade or bomb out.
3D TV.
Although I thought Avatar was okay, the 3D didn't impress me, nor did I find it very comfortable wearing those glasses for an extended period of time. I guess time will tell the future of it.

I avoid 3-D movies. I think it's a gimmick and will die out like it did in the 50s except in tourist attractions like IMAX houses.

You keep using that term, "wave of the future". I do not think it means what you think it means.

3D will only last if we get more movies like Avatar and less like My Bloody Valentine. Also, I don't think 2D movies converted into 3D like Clash of the Titans are going to help.

Hollywood's Oscar snub of James Cameron's extraordinarily over-hyped movie Avatar was a message that audiences are already tired of films where gimmicks and special effects are the central appeal of a movie. They want a compelling story with rich characters played by great actors in a finely crafted film.

If they can find a way so people dont have to wear glasses then 3d will be a hit. Otherwise it will fade out as always.

I don't like 3D at all. It gives me headaches and makes me nauseated to watch it for more than a few minutes. I'm sure it's fun for kids but I hope they stop wasting time and money on making every single movie out there 3D.

I am a nut for 3-D. I have even written award winning articles for the 3-D community. I also worked in movie exhibition for a number of years and have had hands-on experience with most of the older 3-D systems. I have had 3-D TV capability at home for years.

There are technical issues in movie theatres, where showing a single pair of images (binocular 3-D) to large audiences will never provide correct viewing for all audience members. The 3-D medium also takes a different film language than is currently used. The glasses issue has been and will continue to be a huge issue. Those issues will limit 3-D.

There will continue to be 3-D animated films, and more live action 3-D, but the real market for 3-D is the home market, which will be developing over the next few years. Will 3-D last? If the TV market is strong and grows, then yes.

I've said it before, most people have never had an experience with true orthoscopic 3-D. That IS possible at home and is mind-boggling cool. Remember that the first big photographic entertainment was 3-D stereoviews of the world. The potential is there in 3-D for a huge market. It will be explored.
