You know, just when you start getting over confident and thinking that you have it all worked out, life comes along and gives you a swift kick in the backside and says "Really? You think you know it all? Well try this on for size" and you find yourself facing one of your worst fears. I have been informed that I am expected to deliver a seminar on abnormal psychology at the university this coming session. I am terrified of public speaking, so badly that it makes me want to cry just thinking about it. It would be so easy to just dump the subject and not do it but I have to face it if I want to move forward. So if I start obsessing about overcoming fears for the next month, you'll know why.

Thank you so much for this. I'll try to relax . It's just that I only found out this morning (it's 10am here) and it's freaking me out a little. I am the type that goes white and sweaty at the very thought of public speaking but I know that every time I overcome something like this I wonder why I was so terrified of it to begin with. I think my best course is to be really well prepared and just not allow myself to think about all those people looking at me.
When I first began university I was scared of writing essays. I thought that I would be terrible at it, but I have found that I am actually rather good at it. I was scared of being an older student (I am 41 now, I was 38 when I started) but that has proved to be an asset rather than a liability. I know that I can overcome this fear as well, I just have to convince myself of it over the next month.
