Everyone equates Creedence Clearwater Revival with New Orleans, the Bayou, and Cajun dialect.

Even to this day when you hear John Fogarty speak, he sounds Cajun.

Yet the entire band hails from the San Francisco Bay area and never lived in Louisiana at all.

So why and how did they get that "sound"?

They created it and it has always seemed to work for them. John's wife isn't from CA BTW, but I know where!

So even in an interview today, Fogarty "puts on" a fake Cajun accent.

Whatever he does..... please don't stop John!! This live Born On The Bayou @ 1:50-3:16 shows off the power he has. That guitar just makes you sit up straight or jump out of bed. It's what I like to call feel good or pump you up music. He is a very respectable guitar player in his own right! Ramble Tamble brings on a feeling that is hard to achieve and leaves you going..... WOW!! As for Fortunate Son........ well it was used in tons of movies and this Die Hard 4 is no exception. Some buds and I went to the theater to see this as with all the others hehehe! When that tune came on in a movie like this, nearly every guy in the place sat up in their seat and yelled..... HELL YEAH!! Some even said F YEAH! LMAO That should tell you something? I'd rate him up there with Bob Seger as an artist any "real" man is proud of!

I have a DVD of CCR live at London's Albert Hall from the 60s which is really powerful too.

Not many people realize that Fogarty was such a mean guitar player....he doesn't get much credit in that department.

Here's a great video from CCR at Woodstock. It didn't make the cut in the original Woodstock movie because Fogarty felt the sound quality was sub-par.

This one is a little above the normal hard side of CCR.

Group formed as the Blue Velvets, c. 1960, in El Cerrito, CA; recorded a single on the Orchestra label, early 1960s; signed to Fantasy Records, 1964; record company changed band’s name to the Golliwogs; made several recordings; band changed its name to Creedence Clearwater Revival.
With the new moniker came a change of direction. Fogerty and the others focused on THE KIND OF MUSIC THEY REALLY WANTED TO PLAY. The result was a more earthy sound, one that seemed to find a niche in the burgeoning rock ’n’ roll scene .

OR...................IT WAS..............A

Hmm..I never equated CCR with a Cajun sound, but rather with just a sort of gritty, bluesy-rock style. I see what you mean about his accent, though; to me it always sounded a bit southern, but alot of dudes from California in the 70's affected that laidback drawl. Glenn Frey of the Eagles immediately comes to mind. And Frey also had that nasal voice like Fogerty.
But yeah, CCR wwas great.
Here's one of my all-time favorites:
