on her debut album in 1973, singer/songwriter makes a statement in song that she does not have the soul of a more prominent singer/songwriter from the 60's, nor can she see herself like a second singer/songwriter also from the 60's

she sings both names of the artists she is comparing herself to

she was also correct in her assessments. although her approach superficially sounded like the 2, she did not dig in as deep emotionally as the 2. her approach was more commercial

to know this question you have to have an interest in old singer/songwriters and know this obscure forgotten album

if you know the answer, please id the artist, album song and the 2 artists being referred to in the song

Default no

this singer was known basically for a big hit in 1974 and a big hit in 1979, and she composed several tunes which were hits for others

I remember don't cry out loud, and I remeber that song being big around 79, so I took a guess.

But that's all I know, not sure of her 74 hit or any album titles.

Her hit from '74 was "Midnight Blue." According to Wikipedia, her debut album was called "Home to Myself." No track listings though...

Default Ok

on MM's debut lp "Home To Myself" she sings "I may not have the soul of Joni (Mitchell)" and "I can't picture myself like Miss Laura (Nyro)... on the song "Funny That Way"

I liked MM but in a way she's right about what she sang, tho i did find something absolutely irresistible and enduring about Midnite Blue

As an avid collector of New Orleans style Jazz (1920 to present) over a period of sixty plus years, I did have a sneaky feeling that some of CCR's material was perhaps Cajun but who cares, their music was collectively fabulous, I've played several of their numbers on air when broadcasting Rock Jazz 'n'Folk in New Zealand over a ten year period. When I served in the Military,I also ran Disc Programs and always featured CCR for which, during the Vietnam War period was a lifeline to reality.
No group I can think of other than the EAGLES, have offered the listener such great music, powerful lyrics, catching melodies which are instantly recognisable after the first two notes, CCR were a great band with equally great vocals. When listening to 'todays' 3rd rate trash with its Automatic synthesised beat, NO MELODY, harmony none existent, it makes me wonder whether today's young have 'Cloth Ears.Perhaps they don't but they do have to listen to a heap of mindless garbage pumped out on a Dollar per disc basis for the producers. How many others feel this way, i.e How Many readers put CCR at the top?Terry Offord.
