I was wondering if anyone would mention the Dead. When I was seeing them in concert the one note we always wanted to hear was that first note of St. Stephen.
The word out is that Billy used Pecos instead of picks back in this vintage. The ones with the serrated edges! That's how he got the bite on the strings they think. I don't know but the finger picking and hammering on with the fret hand at the same time was VERY cool and unique!
Great picks all! I'm wondering how many are actually recognizable from the first note. Can't wait to play each vid. Stairway seems to be, and lots of Hendrix and the Who songs. The Beatles are big on it. I'd add Imagine by Lennon, that piano note seems distinctive (although Oasis sampled it almost in Don't Look Back in Anger). The laugh by Sting before Roxanne opens although, not a note, is pretty revealing.
