Well here's some that were on either the "Easy Listening" charts of the 1960s or the Lawrence Welk show. Not sure if I deem them "square" or not, but the Lawrence Welk Show at least became almost synonymous with "square." I know elderly Republicans who find it dorky.

YouTube - The Lawrence Welk Show: Tonight You Belong To Me - Lennon Sisters, this song is also known for that commercial with shadow puppets and I think was in the film "The Jerk." I don't think it's original to this group though.

YouTube - Washington Square - Village Stompers - Banjos are kind of square and well it has the word "square" in the title.

YouTube - Sounds Orchestral Cast Your Fate To The Wind - I like Guaraldi's original, but this is maybe more square.

Although "favorite" was wanted. I like those three songs, but I don't know if I'd deem them favorites. Well "Washington Square" I like pretty well.

Looking through the "Easy Listening charts" of the 1960s and 1970s for songs that might be square I'd say the following might be high among songs I like and possibly favorites in a few cases.

"Sukiyaki/Ue wo Muite Arukō" by Kyu Sakamoto
"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" by B. J. Thomas
"Rainy Days and Mondays" by The Carpenters
"Dueling Banjos" by Weissberg and Mandell
"Feels so Good" by Chuck Mangione

For possibly squarest songs I've liked "Songbird" by Kenny G and "Love Can Move Mountains" by Celine Dion. I also liked "Baby Baby" by Amy Grant. I may look for videos for some of these in my next post.

As I said I'd do some of those listed above.

YouTube - Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good - Heard it a lot on "King of the Hill."

YouTube - The Carpenters-Rainy Days and Mondays with lyrics - Considering it turned out she actually had some kind of deep emotional turmoil I find this poignant, almost "telling."

YouTube - Céline Dion performing Patti Labelle's "If You Asked Me To" - Not the one I listed, but I think I liked this LaBelle cover at the time.

There seems to be several places named "Washington Square" but the song apparently refers to a park in New York City. Not sure the song itself actually is square. For potentially/arguably square or uncool songs.

YouTube - KENNY G -SONGBIRD

YouTube - The Chordettes - Mr. Sandman

YouTube - Frankie Yankovic And His Yanks - Acapulco Polka (1950s) - Okay not sure I like this one, but polka I think has a "square" rep.

Washington Square is the heart of Greenich Village, NYC. Back in the day, this was the home to all the Beat coffeehouses (Bleeker Street, etc...) where Dylan, Tom Paxton, John Sebastian and the other folkies would hang out.
