YouTube - Scarecrow's Dream - Dan Fogelberg

al 3 tunes are from Dan's "Netherlands" lp in 1977. they are a great example of the excellent sense of melody Dan had but they are really different from his early 80's hits we all know

IMO it was Dan's best lp. "Love Gone By" was an uptempo rocker that didn't seem to fit on the lp regarding the other songs but not only was the first song on the lp but was released as a single promoting it. Great youtubes rlrl!

Default yes I know what you mean

I always skipped "Love Gone By" on Netherlands as well as "Once Upon A Time" sometimes that old California country rock theme gets played out and they all start to sound the same after awhile

Default I got the term neoclassical

from a Rolling Stone Review guide book that described Dan as "Fogelberg possesses a mean neoclassical streak" going to describe tunes from Netherlands like "Promises made" which fused James Taylor type folk pop with Moody Blues style

another review described Fogelberg as "has refined the richly textured Crosby Still and Nash sound into an engagingly light ersatz classical style"

new probably means "new" or modern and classicism means a classical way of doing or thinking

so when he fuses a classical influence into modern folk pop or folk rock, i suppose we get neoclassical
