It was great music from a wonderful Disney film that children all over the world loved.
The song resonated well with young and old, and went very well with the story.
The singer, Idina Menzel is a well known singer on Broadway and many folks love her.
The song won an Academy Award and sold millions, as did the Soundtrack.
(While it wasn't the one I would have personally chosen for that award of those in the category, I think it is still a nice song that touched a lot of people, especially children.
It has been sung over and over all year, as children have made many videos on Youtube, and have really enjoyed it immensely.

Anything popular becomes annoying after awhile.

Yes, I suppose that is true, Ceece.

I would have preferred the Academy Award to have gone to "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, which many folks may feel annoyed with by now, but I still love hearing it!

Right song at the right time. Disney also released several different sound track versions across the world. The song is so beautiful and Idina Menzel sings it SOOO beautifully. I am a straight 26 year old man and thoroughly enjoyed it (as I've said on other threads) so it's not about the sex in it unlike maybe others like Princess and the Frog.

As for not getting the song, could it be that it got too over-saturated and you heard all the YouTube covers and just not get it (like me with the Harlem Shake last year.)

Edit:

Idina Menzel is HUGE in the Broadway world through Wicked with Kristin Chenoworth and also had a bit of a role on the hit TV show Glee as Rachel's (played by Lea Michele) mother and a rival glee club director.

I agree the song is somewhat over-exposed and that is the only knock I can think of it.
