RIP, he gave us a lot of good to remember him by. I knew he was ill and not part of the 2015 tour, but I had purchased tickets anyway, glad I did, 'might be the last time to see some of the others, you never know.
Spinning Fragile on vinyl right now... just listened to Close to the Edge before it.
Sad news, indeed. I just read about his diagnosis a few weeks ago.
Considered buying tix a while back, but I prefer Yes with Jon Anderson.
Myself as well. 2 singers since John, 3 total overall if you count the guy from the Buggles on that older album. John was best. He still performs solo. Albums like Relayer all the way to Big generator are one of a kind.
This is a tremendous loss, not just to the progressive rock genre, but rock, period, and the art of bass playing. Chris Squire lit the way for a new, more aggressive style of bass playing that his predecessors, like Jack Bruce (Cream) and Lee Jackson (The Nice), to name but two, had by comparison only hinted at in their endeavors.
Chris was also quite the songwriter, and he possessed a great singing voice, which made him a triple threat.
I was devastated, shocked, and so sad to hear this today. I didn't know he had been ill and am sorry most of all that he had to suffer. What a legend. At least I got to see them twice, both times fairly up-close (though I admit I was watching Steve Howe almost the entire time).
When it's someone from one of your favorite groups for so many years, it feels almost like a death in the family to me.
Sad, Yes has always been my all time favorite band, I had seen them live more times than I can count over the last 35 years. I'm sure he is having a jam session with original guitarist Peter Banks as I type this.
RIP I missed this completely and I always quickly learn of famous deaths.
