Okay, I just read somewhere that George wrote a bunch of songs near the end of the Beatles run but Paul and John wouldn't include those songs and let George sing them in the albums they released. He got frustrated and helped orchestrate the breakup of the band leading to Harrison to use all those songs he wrote and make his own albums.
I always suspected John and Paul holding Harrison back.

That pretty much fits with what I read and posted. He and Ringo played second fiddle to the other two.
