Wow--what a crappy year for music! LOL. I couldn't pick ANY of those songs as ones I liked. Always been a rock and roll guy--I liked Queen but "Another one Bites the Dust" was one of their lamest.
80s I think of the bands I liked from then: Huey Lewis and the News; the Cars; Ac/DC; Jimmy Buffet still going strong; and oh! those hard rock Power Ballads which I'm a sucker for. Whitesnake/Poison/Motley Crue/Night Ranger--but alas, none of them on the list. bummer.

Agree those are not Queen's best songs. ACDC did release their biggest album "Back in Black" in 1980, but their songs never reached #1. Whitesnake did appear on the 1987 poll, "Here I Go Again" was #1 that year.
Poison's "Every Rose was #1 in 1988/89, you can vote for it in those polls.
Mötley Crüe and Night Ranger never had a #1 song.
By the way of those you mentioned, only ACDC was big in 1980, Huey Lewis, and those hair bands were unknown in 1980.
Huey has lots of #1 songs, check out the 1985-1987 polls.
I like most of Queen's discog, too, but how is "Another One Bites The Dust" a "lame" song? It's all about John Deacon's bassline. It could be an instrumental and I'd love it. No band that was around in the late '60s/early '70s sounded the same in 1980. That goes for Queen, Yes (who produced one of their best albums in 1980, Drama), Journey and many others. Even Kansas had begun to streamline their sound.

It's a good song, not the best, but still a good song. Yes many bands were changing their sounds, or else they would have went out of business. Look at those progressive rock bands, they either split or changed their sound because prog was dying by the late 70's.
Queen were a very versatile band, so changing their sound was the norm for them.
Good year for #1 singles as well as Top 40 singles but my choices for that year are
Blondie's "Call Me"
Lipps Inc's "Funkytown"
Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" (my favorite Michael Jackson song)
Diana Ross's "Upside Down"
John Lennon's "Just Like Starting Over"
There are many songs I wish had went #1 that year such as
SOS Band's "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" #3
Air Supply's "Lost In Love" #3
Hall & Oates' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" #12
Doobie Brothers' "Real Love" #5
Kim Carnes' "More Love" #10
Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why" #8
