Though noone has posted about him here on City Data, he was one of the great guitarists to come from across the pond. He had had problems with severe depression, was also schizophrenic. It was sad because he was in the middle of a great career. He hooked up with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in early 1966, then formed his own band--Fleetwood Mac. His tune "Albatross" got a lot of airplay around January of 1969, I remember buying that 45 at the local Woolworths store. And afterwards the lp, I remember buying the first lp too--didn't know quite what to make of it with the cover of a back alley and a funky trash can.
But when Then Play On came out around March of 1970, FM radio gave the whole album a lot of attention. His lp with the tiger on the cover (End Of The Game) was released late that year but after that his health really went south on him. He released 2 lp's on 1980, both are quite good And collectible as is everything he was involved with. He was well thought of by a variety of British musicians, among them Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, Andy Fraser (Free) and several others. AND Eric Clapton.
He was only 72 when he passed. Am saddened by his passing. Rest well, Mr. Green.
Sad to hear the news of Mr. Green's death. Fleetwood Mac was one of my favorite music groups during my teen and early adult years. Loved their style of music which could be sentimental or fun and bouncy ... bouncy like this ....
Green wrote and first recorded "Green Manilishi" with Fleetwood Mac when it was still a hard rocking blues band. That guitar riff on that song sounded so torturing and Green himself sounded like he was descending into madness towards the end of the song. A truly memorable masterpiece.
