Ok , this is what I managed to find out about this song. Apparently when the original line up reformed they made a demo recording to generate some interest in the industry for Astronaut. Salt in the Rainbow appeared on that demo but didn't make the cut for Astronaut. Why it didn't is completely beyond me because it is a beautiful song. Then again I have been baffled by some of their song choices for as long as I can remember, makes you wonder what other unreleased material is out there. If you go to the page below and follow the links through the music section of the site it has links to itunes and other sites that sell their music, you might get lucky...
I actually think "The Wedding Album" was by far their best piece of work, released in 1993, just after the whole "glitz" of the 80's. Musically, that was a great album, which spawned 2 amazing singles that still sound as good today as they did back in 1993 ("Ordinary World" and "Come Undone").
Talking about beautiful Duran ballads. This has become one of my favourites. It's called "The Sun Doesn't Shine Forever" from the Pop Trash album. The only one I could find on YouTube was this one where somebody had used the track for a Terminator tribute.....
I went to see them in December and they fantastic. Sounded just like they do on CD.
I'm so jealous. I've never been able to see them live. I've always been too remote (location wise) or had other responsibilities when they have toured here. I just have to content myself with dvds I guess...
Here's a performance of "New Religion" from the Live From London dvd....

I saw on their website that last year they played 7 nights in Australia.

They did, and I was stuck up on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. I could have gone to the one on the Gold Coast but it was a festival and the weather was atrocious that weekend. Didn't seem worth it at the time to go all that way for a short festival set in the mud. If I had the time over I would go regardless of the weather, because I have regretted that decision ever since. If they had have done a proper show in Brisbane I would definitely have gone. Now I'm back down in New South Wales, I just have to wait for them to tour again. Hopefully they'll tour the next album as well, they have a pretty big fan base down here still.
