And the best group out RIGHT NOW is Slaughterhouse with Joe Budden from Jersey Royce from Detroit Joell Ortiz from NYC and Crooked I from Long Beach.
IMO,talent wise the group is Crooked>Royce>Joell/Joe
The top 3 places that have had the largest impact on rap are in no particular order...
New York/New Jersey/Greater NYC area
Los Angeles/Compton/Long Beach/Greater LA area
San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland Bay area/Sacramento
period.
Houston would come in 4th followed by Chi-town. When it comes to Detroit Rap you have to include Flint and Saginaw in the equation as well.
I prefer West coast rap over East coast, both are great though. If any one wants to argue with me about the bay then go ahead. The bay has been at since the beginning, started a majority of the slang in rap and started the independent hustle plus a unique succesful style different than that of LA's. The bay is the most underrecognized regions when it comes to rap. Everybody took our slang.

I listen to Joe Budden, Joell, and Royce and they are some of the best lyricists in the rap game right now. I'll have to check out Crooked I, I've never heard any of his stuff yet.

Joe is better solo,IMO. And Crooked is an amazing lyricist but it's hit or miss with a lot of his songs. Look up the "hip hop weekly" series.
