A place for all the jazz heads and astral groovers to warehouse their favorite hand clapping melodies...if they so wish.

Eddie Harris, Horace Silver, Alice Coltrane maybe...Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie, Blue Note Stuff...Etc

The following may not entirely fit what you mean, but here's some jazz I like some of which is soul influenced or at least unusual.

YouTube - Yusef Lateef - Love Theme From Spartacus

YouTube - Soulful Strut (The Top Down Version)-Grover Washington Jr.

YouTube - sinnerman nina simone

And although it might not fit this is one I really enjoyed.

It doesn't display it, but it's Billie Holiday with Lester Young near the end of their respective lives.

I was thinking it might be the spacier type of jazz. If so I should've looked for Sonny Sharrock or Sun Ra. (Sharrock did the theme to Space Ghost: Coast to Coast)

I like it!

YouTube - Sonny Sharrock - Many Mansions

YouTube - Alice Coltrane "Blue Nile" (1970)

YouTube - Dizzy Gillespie "Matrix"

Astral Jazz to me just means astral jazz. Abstract but can be groovy. Space themes always help.

Listen to this on headphones from the LP/CD/MP3 - Oh my! This isn't the whole cut, Walking In Space is 12 minutes long and YouTube limits videos to 10. And Indeed, the album cut before it Dead End (4 minutes) clearly belongs with WIS. They are a "suite" if you will, one leads into the other. I recommend the whole album

Yeah, Sun Ra was all that came to my mind.
