I work with a guy who grew up near Whittier, slightly older than me, and he describes the Whisky and Madame Wong's as being THE places to be, but he was more into C&W. He would go to Hollywood "just to see the freak show". In Phoenix we had Clyde's Mason Jar, where I saw The Plasmatics. The Mason Jar wasn't anything like the LA and OC clubs, but it was something. The Spiffs, Blue Shoes, The Schoolboys, all regulars.

She was doing the shaving cream tube top thing, and as she shimmied those, ah, Wendys, yeah, we'll call them that, they had a life of their own. The centrifugal force caused the shaving cream to fly off in all directions, much to the crowd's delight, especially the guys up front, who were getting hit by it. This was shortly after the Moral Majority debacle and it was quite amusing. (She had electrical tape or black pasties or something similar on.)
"I Need Love" from the 1981 Whitford/St. Holmes album, with that one guy from Aerosmith, and that guy who sang for Ted Nugent. Only I like it better than anything Aerosmith ever recorded!
