Jerry Wallace - If You Leave Me Tonight I'll Cry - YouTube
I recall being so thrilled when I found this 45rpm in Janssen's music department, which was in the store basement. They dealt in jukeboxes, too, and sold the records in a special place they had set up for youngsters and teens, four sides of record bins around a place for a salesperson in the middle. These used records cost 25 cents each, which was wonderful because many of us couldn't afford full-price ones very often. So, that sort of makeshift spot in the store was always busy with mainly seventh- and eighth-graders from Central, which was located about two blocks from downtown. Of course, it attracted teenagers, too. Adults seemed to leave that place just for us. One thing that was especially nice was that the clerks would stash records for us beneath the counter, allowing us to buy a few at a time, whenever we could afford it. I recall everyone being polite and quiet even when we got excited about a find. We also had to take turns "testing" records on the two players provided; we always kept the volume low so we wouldn't disturb adult shoppers. Nowadays, would they think we were weird kids? Watch the series and sitcoms of back then. We really acted like that; we tended to be good, respectful youngsters though there were mischievous ones occasionally. It was a very innocent time for us when we were allowed to be children and enjoyed it. We weren't in a rush to be older; I don't remember anyone saying, "When I'm 16... or 18... or whatever age."
Oh dear... I did it again. I generally figure that, if I ramble, most people won't bother reading so many words, right?
