Babe is my least favorite Styx song. I dont bother much with BillyJoel either except for the masterpiece "Downeaster Alexa". I guess I can see why you see them as simular but they really are miles apart.
I didn't think "Babe" was one of their better songs but it's a hell lot better than the cruddy "Mr. Roboto"
Wow. Same meter. Imagine that. Tempos for both are slow. If one was much faster than the other, played briskly, it would make a difference. Of course, most ballads about love are going to have more impact at slower tempos.
Back to the original subject: yes there is some similariy in tempo, mood and keyboard type. Keyboardists, help us out (I'm just a dumb@ss drummer lol) - is that a Fender Rhodes on both? I know Billy Joel used one, but I thought DeYoung was a purist (i.e. Steinway)? I'm only an amateur drummer of 26 years, but "Babe" is NOT on the Steinway, I'll bet the farm!
Other than in the sense that they were both tacky sentimental crap.... no.
Crap??
STYX is awesome!!!!!!!! -- BABE is quite good, its on one of my records I have of them! (I agree 'JUST THE WAY YOU ARE' isnt that good but he has alot of stuff THAT IS GOOD from the 80s)
