I live right outside Boston, actually I can walk there. I have the most amazing health-care so I've been spoiled in that aspect.

Just wondering for those who have moved to the Myrtle Beach area from the NE area what your thoughts are on finding a good internist and specialists?

Is there a " group " that is associated with a good hospital, I know that there are three hospitals in the grand-strand area. Can you get xrays, bloodwork etc in the same building? It seems that my cousins have to drive some distance for specialists, perhaps it's their insurance? I never really asked.

I miss the days when dr's came to your home or one dr took care of everything!

Thanks

p.s. I found that CVS was great in filling my rx's, complete with a text to my phone...something I don't have with my own personal pharmacy here!

I was involved in managing a large insurance plan when I lived in Massachusetts and was on the state advisory panel to the MA Health Care Quality and Cost Council. From my experience i would say that in South Carolina, variations in where one gets labs, specialty care etc. are also a function of the specific healh plan you have. Some Plans prefer you to go to free standing sites (ususally less expensive for the plan based on their contractual relationship with the vendor). Others don't care if you use hospital based providers. My own plan, still out of Mass, lets me use hospitals for labs but when i do i pay a percentage coinsurance instead of a flat co-pay. I believe Grand Strand Regional Medical Center is the premier hospital in the area. There are a number of group ptactices affiliated with them. You can narrow down who the board certified physcians are by searching on the local Blue Cross Blue Shield web site.

Try Carolina Health Specialists. I know several of the doctors who work with this group.

Carolina Health Specialists® > Home

DM me if you want the name of a specific primary care doctor. I can recommend one of the best in the country, who is right here in Socastee.
