we are thinking of retiring to the the SC coast somewhere. been to Murrell's a few times on vacation and loved it. my husband is 63, due to a change in his company he may or may not be taking early retirement. never to early to think ahead anyway.
we currently live in Atlanta and no reason to stay here if retired ( traffic sucks here, tired of the big city)
been looking online at homes and seems there are some nice ranches in the 200-250 range. if anyone has ideas of nice neighborhoods, I'd appreciate the input. also if there are other coastal towns you would recommend. we are open to all suggestions
also is it true a lot of homes don't have gas? prefer to cook on gas and not electric

ps- if it were up to me ( and I won the lottery) I'd spend summer in South Haven Michigan, winter on SC coast. if any of you want a change of scenery- beautiful lake, beach, small town, etc. check out South Haven. you'd love it

We just built a home (Flagship Construction)in the Meadows of St. Patrick but they only had one lot left and the model (Holly floor plan) as of the beginning of September. However, Flagship is going to be doing more in Forestbrook Reserve soon. The link below has information as to the location, floor plans, etc.

To give you an idea of cost ours is the "Millie". We paid $218,000 and included a Carolina Room, Screen Porch, hardwood floors in the living, hallways, and Carolina Room; Tile in the baths; irrigation system; granite counters.

DR Horton is building in the Lakes which is virtually next to the Meadows. We have friends who just signed a contract to build with them and I their cost is in the area of what you are looking and is a ranch.

Of course there are other builders and any number of areas where construction is taking place. While we had our home built already we will not be permanent residents until July but as you say, it's never too early to be thinking about it. We started looking three years ago and made our decision in August 2014, and closed on our in June.

Carolina Room in Florida is a Florida Room. In our case it is an extra room (10x14) which can be used as an office, a bedroom, additional sitting area, etc. We are making ours an extra sitting area with pocket doors so that it can be treated as an extension of our living room area.

It's a full four season room. Some people have "sun rooms" which they may still call a Carolina Room but it is not a four season room typically.

In NJ we always called a screened-in back porch a Florida room. Here in Florida, where I am now, we call them Lanai's.
