We are looking into buying a beach property in either N. Myrtle Beach or Murrells Inlet, which we would rent out for a few years until we're ready to retire in SC. Does anyone know the going rate for property managers in these areas? I'm assuming it's a percentage of the rental rate, but I can't seem to find what that percentage is. For our lake properties in SC we've always paid 10%, but commissions might be different at the beach. Thanks for your help.

As far as I know, there are no "beach front" (ocean front) properties in Murrells Inlet. Only bay front.......

Hmmmmm....not 100% sure if that's correct. I think that 2.5 mile stretch just South of the GC Pier ( S Waccamaw Drive ) might be considered MI.

The houses we are looking at are oceanfront on S. Waccamaw and have a Murrells Inlet address (zip code 29576).

The Property Management firm that I use charges 12%, but doesn't nickel and dime you with additional fees. Those additional fees can add up quickly. I have been extremely happy with the quality of tenants they found and with their communication.

Though the zip to that area is 29576, it has a Garden City address. Real estate listings will list as such.

Actually, every real estate listing we've looked at on both S. Waccamaw and N. Waccamaw have Murrells Inlet addresses, not Garden City. However, since both Garden City and Murrells Inlet have the same zip code, I'm guessing the two might be interchangeable?

It's really no big deal if it's GC or MI. It's just a name. But...the houses you're looking at (that is in MI) are part of Georgetown County. Tax structure might be a hair more expensive (from what I heard) than Horry County.
