My wife and I are thinking about retiring to MB. There seems to be very popular areas, Socastee and Carolina Forest. Any info on why they are so popular? Any current retirees in this area that that can give us their thoughts are appreciated! Thanks! Fred

Socastee is pretty convenient to everything on the South Strand. There are many communities to choose from & there are more being built. It really depends on how much house you want & how much you can spend.

I don't know alot about Carolina Forest except that it is near Hwy 501, depending on who you talk to, that is a convenience.

They are both good locations, especially Carolina Forest. Some say there is a lot of traffic in that area but being you are coming from NJ, it's not bad. I moved here from NJ also and I haven't seen any traffic here I would consider bad except on the weekends in the summer going to and from the beach. There are lots of shops, close to the beach, major hwys and just about everything you could need.

What's important to you and maybe we can suggest some areas?

We came from NJ and live in the Carolina Forest area. We love it!

Coming from NJ the traffic is not bad, it is funny when someone will say the traffic is bad - this is nothing!

well, my wife and I are beachgoers & we would love to be close as possible to the beach. neither of us play golf so thats not an issue. We dont want to be too isolated either, as we like to have neighbors..

In Carolina Forest we are about 10 minutes from the beach, with lots of friendly neighbors, most of them are from NJ, NY area.

There are alot of retirement communities for those that are 55+ in the Murrells Inlet area. Carolina Forest is also a nice area. And as much as some talk smack about Socastee, I love this place!

Socastee area is just wonderful. Its library is my favorite in the area. Its huge, new and inviting. It also has a bunch of computers you can use, or you can use your Wifi there.
Grocery stores are close, and the Mall is not far away either. Beaches are all within a close ride.
That area keeps you in distance of everything, and yet in a more peaceful location.
I agree usc.......Socastee is tops by me!
