I am a middle school math and social studies teacher looking to relocate to the Myrtle Beach in 2009. I am concern Myrtle Beach is too much of a retirement area. I am active and single so is Myrtle Beach a place to meet and make new friends with young people like me?

I'm 24 will be 25 in October and I love living in Myrtle Beach. It can get boring if you are not in the club scene but there is plenty of other stuff to do also. It all depends on where you stay and who you know.

When we lived there my 19 and 20 year old kids loved it and would like to go back there to live.

Even tho there are alot of "retirees" in MB, don't discount them! Not all of us are old and decrepit! Lots of clubs with some really great bands and dancing... and of course, the beach! I think Myrtle Beach has some of the best beaches going--hard-packed sand, so it's actually fun to walk on. (Unlike Nags Head and that area, where the sand is so "sloggy" that walking is nearly impossible!)
Once you meet some of your fellow teachers, you'll get a good feel of what fun can be had here!

Thanks for the information really appreciate it! Do you think it would be hard for me to find a job down there as a male math teacher?

I am 26 finishing school to be a teacher. I have heard that it is not too hard to get a job. There are several schools in Horry County (where Myrtle Beach is). If you are somewhat flexible as to where you move you should have many choices! You can check out Horry County schools website for info on the schools. I really enjoy Living in Myrtle Beach.

You should also check out the Georgetown School District. There are four very good schools in the Waccamaw Neck area. Here is the website: Employment

It only shows a vacancy for a HS Science teacher at the moment but I don't think they keep the site up to date.

You will want to check in to Horry County Schools for employment.

As far as meeting people, what type of interest do you have? There are some local meetup groups in the area where you can meet other singles.

Good luck with your move!
