I a guessing SC has a county Library system. If so, where would I find the closest Horry County branch to Murrells Inlet?

The closest would be Surfside but it is very small so you might want to go to Socastee.

In a related (kind of) question: My SC State Park parking pass (that we use for Huntington Beach State Park) has expired. I believe I paid $50 for it last year (before we had an SC address). I remember being told that it could be purchased cheaper at County facilities (like the library). True? If so, what do you need? Just proof of an address?

tmozer,
I am not sure about a parking pass, but I know for a discounted fishing pass you need to show a SC drivers license. Maybe someone else will be more familiar with the parking pass.

Yes, your park pass will be $40 at libraries if you have an SC driver's license. I think it's $32 for anyone over 65 with an SC license and those seniors get their passes at the park entrances.

I saw a sign at the Surfside Beach library that said they would only be selling park passes for a while longer and then stop. You might want to get one soon while they are still available at the library, because they are cheaper there than at the park entrances. I can't remember the stop date for selling them there.

I went to the Surfside Branch today and got my card (and a book). I did not ask about the Park parking pass. I figured I'd wait until I returned the book. When I purchased a parking pass last April at Huntington Beach (for $50) I was able to use my debit card. Wonder if that will work at the library? I find cash evaporates from my wallet, so I rarely carry any.......

I guess if I need an SC license (and not just proof of a residence) to get a discount, I might as well just get it at the Park for $50.

I was there yesterday, too, and I asked about the parking pass. They will have them at the library with the discount through the end of June only.

Just FYI if you are planning on using Surfside as your primary library, consider going to Socastee! Surfside Library is or will soon be closed for at least a year for renovations!
