I keep running into a brick wall and I need some help/advice. My husband and I are looking for a winter residence (6 months, maybe more) that will accept our Labrador Retriever. He’s 5 years old, well trained and around 80 lbs. Just about every place we look into only accepts small dogs or none at all. We would like to stay in the Ft Myers/Naples area and a 55+ community would be ideal. I realize I’m asking for a lot but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, we live in Naples and recently moved from the PNW. Being new in town, I’ve gotten a lot of information from Next Door. Locals are very knowledgeable and helpful. I’m sure they would be able to offer advise, there are a lot of dog people around and a fair number of realtors.

Retriever’s are great dogs, good luck!

Thank You for your reply-I will check out Next Door! If we were to move to SWF I know this wouldn’t be an issue but looking to buy a condo/mobile as a second residence has been tough. How can they not love a happy, goofy Lab?

Agreed, Lab’s are perfect dogs. We have a house with a small acreage and no HOA. My dogs are in the process of getting a large backyard, although it’s tough to find handymen these days, after Ian, most are picking up jobs along the coast.

This area is going strong for real estate and there must be plenty of places that would accept a large dog. You just need to find them.
