Just went out to water the tomatoes (doing well), the zucchini (not doing well) and the cucumbers (so so) and there were a ZILLION flies all over every plant! Never seen swarms of flies (except in Australia where the fly is the national bird) like this!

Is there a FLY infestation or did the cicadas reincarnate as flies?

Anybody else?

Love your statement: Is there a FLY infestation or did the cicadas reincarnate as flies?

The flies have finally come out by me also. I've decided to try using Bounce fabric softener sheets (the ones with a scent). I put a sheet in between each window & screen around my patio to see if it helps. I also put Avon Skin so Soft oil in a spray bottle and use it around the windows & doors since they don't like the smell.

Yes - and I'm all for blaming the cicadas for almost anything ;-)

Thank you! I thought it was just ME.

Cicada revenge or something? But I did wonder how the Cicadas could FIT into the tiny fly costumes. Then I wondered if they made SPANX for Cicadas???

Seem to be fewer today but yesterday, I was searching Google for "Fly Cuisine".

If anyone has any LUCK with getting rid of them let me know. I DO have a new way to track them down in the house. Not very swift with the fly swatter so I wait until they are on a window and spray them with Windex. That slows them down, makes them drop. Then smoosh them into a paper towel.

DO NOT BECOME COMPLACENT! The Windex does not kill them, only stuns them. Gotta be fast with the paper towel.

Floods. Heat. Cicadas. Flies. And the bookstores. Dropping like flies.

Harrumph.

I have them here too, NW of Nashville. They seem worse than usual this year. All the bugs seem worse this year. What I do is turn on my halogen floor lamp when I have a fly in the house. They're attracted to it and fly into the light and commit suicide. Easier than trying to chase them with a fly swatter. Then I turn the lamp off, because fried fly stinks if you let them get charred too much.

I like the "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" approach to pest removal!

I don't know if it works or if I'm just getting better but I heard that if you use a fly swatter, you need to hit them in a straight up and down motion...they can see a sideswipe better for some reason. Also, I give my kids a swatter and tell them they can have 10 extra minutes of videogame time for each kill.

I have a problem in my west-facing large front windows. The flies love it there, especially those large, helicopter-sounding things. I use Raid Flying Insect Killer and spray a super fine mist into the blinds. For added enjoyment, it's somewhat gratifying to watch the fly slowly lose it mind, fluttering, sounding like the sputtering engine of an a faltering car, rolling around on its back before plummeting to the ground to be vacuumed up later. Something about the instant insanity inflicting upon these creatures somehow makes up for the insanity inflicted upon me.

I scare myself sometimes.

Dave, do we need to stage an intervention?

(East Nashvillians, hide your pets)

Depending on what gets dumped upstream...it runs red (or red-brown) pretty often I imagine. Anyone having problems with boils, frogs, or lice? Perhaps I should spread some goat blood on my door post just to be on the safe side?
