We recently moved here from Oh. Since this moved I have experienced horrible allergy /sinus congestion problems! I already had sinus infections. Is Nashville prone to have allergy issues? Is this common here for alot of people? What have you done or any advice will be so helpful. Any recommendations for good ENT/allergist would be great!
Thank You for your time!

Yes...welcome to Nashville (or, welcome to the city that gives allergies to everyone).

Nashville is very prone to allergens due to the geography (sitting in a "bowl" with highlands around). Also the heat and humidity can sometime aggrevate people's sinuses and allergies. Ragweed seems to be really a killer for a lot of folks.

That said, if it's not a serious problem (if it doesn't significantly hinder your quality of life) go for the Claratin and watch the local daily weather reports for the allergy watch (usually near the beginning of the weather forecast). That way if it is really bad you know to minimize outdoor activity if it bothers you.

Otherwise, I'd head to a PCP and have some allergy tests done. I'm sure there are treatments out there that help.

North Texas is the same way..I am a nurse and we are seeing a ton of allergy/sinus issues right now..it's worse as the seasons change..hang in there and find a med that helps to control your symptoms. Often, an over the counter allergy med will give you the relief you need. I like the ones that are multi symptom and contain an antihistamine. You can get them everywhere..Walmart, CVS, etc..

Alavert D helps me on days when my allergies are bad. I moved here from the northeast where they were worse.

Try this:

Get one small bottle of Ayr Saline Nasal Mist and one small bottle of peppermint oil. Pop the to off of the Ayr and add one drop of peppermint oil, recap and shake. Guaranteed to clear your nasal passages.
No meds and it's cheap.

Also if you're having that many issues, find some honey that is produced LOCALLY (within 20-30 miles) and eat it daily.

Yes, and it works! My allergy problems have nearly vanished after I started consuming honey made locally.

Ragweed pollen is really bad right now. I've been successful with weekly allergy shots for close to 2 years now and had to start taking oral meds again because the ragweed is causing a horrid reaction.

Locally grown honey is a great suggestion and you might want to try using a neti pot or other sinus rinse system to wash the pollen out of the cilia in your nose.

I also did this and it works great. I haven't taken my prescription meds for awhile now.

I use one of the nasal rinse products. It is a squeeze bottle that you place warm salt water it. Then you rinse out your sinus with it.

My allergies recommended it and I thought she was crazy.

But, it works.

They sell the product at all drugs stores and Wal Mart.
