A couple of friends and I are thinking of sharing a house in the Greenwood Neighbors area of East Nashville, on Chicamauga. Can anyone tell me anything about this area...i.e. is it safe-ish? Quiet? I've gotten conflicting responses about East Nashville...some people say you won't have any problems so long as you're smart about safety, and others say we're basically putting ourselves out there as an eventual target of robbery, assault, or worse. So...any experiences, good or bad? I'd rather make an informed decision, or just stop worrying so much if the crime problem in East Nashville has been overblown. Thanks, everyone

I live just a few blocks from Chicamauga, and I've lived here for more than 3 years. I have personally experienced no criminal activity since living here. There are occasional crimes in the immediate neighborhood (you may have heard about the robbery at Holland House, break-ins, etc.). But I generally feel safe and really like the neighborhood. I do have an alarm at my house, and I don't walk around alone at night, but I think these are general safety precautions you should take just about anywhere. Also, I think there are a lot of people who have spent little to no time in East Nashville, and make judgments based on outdated information or racial/socioeconomic stereotypes. These may be the people who have given you a bad impression.

Decent area but always take precaution and use common sense. A store clerk (liquor store near Family Wash) was killed awhile back when he was closing up.

Chicamauga Ave itself is pretty nice, but anything west of McFerrin Ave, not so much.
