if you leave smyrna at 4am, you are going to hit Atlanta at about 7-8am. That doesnt sound like something I would want to be a part of.

Does anyone know of a bypass route other than going thru Birmingham? Thanks

If I were you, I would try to hit Atlanta around 10 am (leave Nashville at 5:30-6ish)...go straight through town...don't take the bypass. Unless there's a wreck, it should be flowing pretty well by then (at least it has the times I've been through ATL).

I wouldn't mess with going through Birmingham. That'll probably add an hour and a half to the trip. Unless your destination is in the panhandle, I don't see how it would help you.

Thanks for responding. I have no choice but to go thru at 8am-8:30, and my GPS says go straight thru on 75. At 8am am I better off taking the 285 bypass, or??? Thanks

At 8 AM definitely take the bypass. I-75 through downtown Atlanta is wide, but absolutely crammed during rush hour. It looks like you'd be able to go either way around, check traffic as you're approaching if you have a smartphone to see which way is moving smoother.
