This makes me sad. Developers will tear down 1920s-era row of Hillsboro Village buildings and replace it with three-story apartment/retail structure.

Apartment, retail development is bound for Hillsboro Village | The Tennessean | tennessean.com

I was just sitting at the light last week looking at these buildings and thinking how charming they were and thankful that this couple of blocks had survived mostly in tact.

I'm sure HG Hill will build an "architecturally compatible" structure, but it won't have a soul like these buildings do. And more density is not what this street needs.

This is sad. This really takes away from the whole quaint village concept that many of the independant stores and restaurants had successfully cultivated. This type of development is a good thing for Elliston Place which could use the density. I can't see it being a good thing for Hillsboro Village though.

Apparently Hill is already backpedaling a bit. Now saying they won't seek a variance from the Urban District Overlay for three stories, and scaling back from 69 units to 47.

Hill Realty won't ask for UDO change in Hillsboro Village | nashvillepost.com

Even so, a teardown in an iconic area like this, really?

It really is all about the $$.

Makes no sense aesthetically or traditionally, but it'll make them a crap-ton of money. I wish they'd build them, but a few blocks off the main drag...still within easy walking distance.

Friday will be the last day for Tower Records/FYE. Put a tower in it's place. Another tower starring a block over on Elliston. There goes the neighborhood.
