I currently live in central Kentucky and work in Human Resources for Amazon - Have the potontial to transfer to one of our new sites, in Lebanon or Murfreesboro. Can you tell me how these two cities differ? Is one safer than the other? More rural? Cost of living similar? Which has a better school system? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Lebanon is safer, more rural, and probably a bit cheaper. Murfreesboro has better schools in some districts but Lebanon borders Mt Juliet which has very good schools.

The population difference is huge. Murfreesboro is around 100k and Lebanon is more like 25-30k.

Agreed with vivelafrance. The main difference is size, so I'd start with your preference of a little more city or a little more small-town. Either way, you're going to find the suburban/rural feel predominates, and both offer just about any kind of area you could want (except big-city living) within easy commuting range.

One huge difference from Lebanon to downtown Nashville is the option to use the Music City Star commuter train. On Titan game days & other events like the 4th fireworks can make for a pleasant evening. Trains run rush hour on weekdays with a late run Fridays. Parking is free at the stations & you can get $5 tickets (One-way).

From Murfreesboro there is a commuter bus. Traffic on I-24 is becoming a problem.
