Sister's birthday gift is a show at the Grand Ole Opry - I think it starts at 7 so would have to be an early dinner. Any good restaurants near there? I moved here the weekend of the flood so haven't spent ANY time over there save for one trip to see the Christmas lights. Any ideas? (thanks!)

There are a couple of nicer chain type spots at Opry Mills. Romano's Macaroni Grill comes to mind. Caney Fork Grill is nearby (Music Valley Drive, across the street from the O'Land Hotel) and I hear it is good. I've never been so I'm not sure what it's like, but it strikes me as a casual place...as most restaurants are in that area.

Other than that...there's really not many nicer restaurants in the area...certainly few that aren't chains. If you have the time and money, it might be worth it to eat inside the Opryland Hotel. Certainly would be a beautiful place...but it does get pricey in there.

There are a lot of chains at Opry Mills.

Inside the Opryland Hotel there are several very nice restaurants that you can make reservations for.

Also Opry is pretty close to Ellendales which was one of the best meals I've had. (i went to the lunch buffet)

Good call on Ellendale's...that would be a good spot. I think I had a smoked ribeye there once that was amazing.

Another endorsement for Ellendale's, especially if you're looking to have a more special/nice dinner for the occasion.

It's been a long time since I've had a meal inside the hotel (on someone else's dime, mind you)...but it struck me as expensive for the quality.

The only other non-chainy, non-fast food place that comes to mind for me right now is McNamara's Irish Pub, which is great...but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for on this occasion.

A new place to try is the Opry Grill just off Music Valley. If you don't mind the chain, a Cracker Barrell is nearby.

Two places to avoid in the Opry Mall are the Rainforest & Aquarium. Too slow & a high price for what you get.
