Part of the reason for struggling to get larger conventions has been the lack of large blocks of hotel space. Hopefully, with the announcement of the Westin, as well as other hotels, that will no longer be an issue.

Hopefully the subsequent years will see more consistent booking.

Another 4 star is needed. What is the Westin's proposed star rating?

Probably in that range.

There is also an active proposal for a Marriott on the corner of 8th and Demonbreun, as well as several other upscale hotels.

Real Estate investor Mark Bloom has stated that he wants to attract a 5 star (Four Seasons/Ritz/other) to the Gulch.

I totally agree that much of the problem is the lack of hotel space suitable for large conventions. I believe the Nashville CVB has mentioned several times before that they anticipated more hotel rooms to be available around the time that the MCC opened. We now have a Westin, Virgin Hotel, Marriott, 21c Museum Hotel, the Noel Place hotel conversion and potentially a JW Marriott proposed. This is in addition the whatever hotel is a part of the Buckingham development. The hotel boom happened later than anticipated, but it appears to be well underway.
