Hi all, this is my first post; I'm excited to be here.

I'm an Atlanta native looking to possibly move to Nashville, TN with my family (DH and 2 upper elementary aged children). A little background info..we're mid thirties, wanting to be in a family friendly area within close proximity (20 min or so) to parks/sports (my son plays soccer), outdoor activities, girls/boy scouts, music lessons nearby etc..

Just wondering if it's possible to find a home between 150-200k in a decent suburb of Nashville with very good schools? (this is most important to us!) I've done quite a bit of research but am hoping for some first hand knowledge of the area. Like great schools . o r g suggests the Franklin and Brentwood areas have great public schools, but I can't find many homes in our price range. Any thoughts? Are there any other areas that have good schools with affordable housing options? If so I would appreciate any advice.

On a side note, our ethnicity is Middle Eastern and we're non denominational Christians. We're concerned about being accepted in the community/church we decide to be part of. We've never experienced any racism here in Atlanta, as it's very diverse, but would we in Nashville or the surrounding area? Any info is appreciated. Thank you

I'm a homemaker and my husband hasn't found a job yet. He's intending to find something similar to what he does here - superintendent for a home builder, traveling to different parts of the city daily.

Thank you. Is there a particular reason why?

Here is the website to look for houses in different cites/counties.

RealTracs Real Estate Mid-South Property Finder

You're right that there are few houses in your price range (Brentwood is totally out) BUT it's not impossible to find a house or town home in your price range if you have the patience. I moved here 4 years ago and prices have climbed quite a bit just in the last year since Franklin started making all these lists. But they are building like crazy and it might drive some prices of older properties down.

You could also rent for a year to see if you liked it here?

But you can do a lot of searching on this website for what you can get in your price range. TIP:When you type in the price range, don't use a comma . . .

Best of luck!

Thank you, great site. I had the chance to browse a bit but I'll have more time later on my home computer. We certainly do have alot of patience and with pricing being a challenge, we will need it. We are planning to rent first so hopefully we'll get a better perspective when we get there.

At this point, we're just wanting to downsize our life without having to sacrifice safe neighborhoods and quality schools, thats where the thought of Nashville came in. I'd traveled through many times in my early twenties and it always left a good impression.

Franklin might be tough as I would consider Franklin Nashville's Alpharetta. You would probably have more options in the next tier of cities. Those would be Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Goodlettsville (Sumner County side) and Smyrna. All good suburbs but a level below Franklin which is at the top tier of reasonable suburbs. I might even consider White House.

Good to know. And we can't really afford Alpharetta unless we found that rare foreclosure or short sale. That makes sense. For some reason I thought Nashville home prices on the whole were much more affordable than Atlanta, but they seem about the same. I'll take a look at the other cities you mentioned, thank you!
