A friend and I are looking at an apartment located in midtown (near Vandy and downtown). Monthly, we would be paying $600 each. That's including all bills. The apartment is very nice 2 bedroom with hardwood floors. We're coming from a small town, so the cost of living is much higher than we are use to. So, is that a good price for an apartment in that location? Also, is midtown a pretty decent neighborhood? Anything you can tell me is appreciated! Thank you!

Sounds like a good deal for the area, as long as there aren't projects right next door-where exactly is the apt? If you are within a 5-10 minute walk to Vandy campus then it's probably a pretty safe area.

Hayes Street is mostly commercial (a lot of medical and small office buildings). One end of the street is dominated by Baptist Hospital.

I don't keep up with apartments rent, but that's probably a reasonable price for a 2 BR apartment in that area.

Midtown is a nice area for the most part.

ok, well closer to Church St. I've heard it gets sketchy (this comes from a friend of mine that works in that area)...if you are just walking towards Vandy and along West End you should be ok-but I would definitely carry mace regardless for females-just too many weirdos out there! Hell, a girl just got killed on a hiking trail in GA by some sicko! not trying to scare you, just that it's always good to be careful (I come from Memphis so I'm paranoid like that, ha) good luck in Nashville!

Default living near Vandy

Isis, if you are living near the Vandy area and ONLY paying 600.00 per month, consider yourself extremely lucky!!
