I've driven through Nashville a few times (65 to 24 and vice versa) and the traffic has always been pretty bad. Is there a route that is less notorious for rush hour bumper to bumper traffic or is it just bad no matter the direction you're coming from?

I don't know which direction you're referencing but from the north I'm guessing Briley Parkway can generally get you from 65 to 24 with less traffic.

IT's Bad. People drive like they are the only ones on the road. No turn signals to switch lanes. Thank the Lord my husband works from home now. He raised his life insurance moving here.

I'm just talking about the traffic in general, not necessarily that route. I've heard some horror stories about how a 10 mile commute can take close to an hour in the rush hour traffic.

Yes, rush hour is bad, just like anywhere. But there is no predicting when an accident will clog up one of the interstates during off-peak times, too.

Just plan your trip to avoid rush hour.

TDOT has a SmartWay app that shows drive-time problems if you want to check that out.

I take it you've never lived in a metro with more than 1 million people before?

Traffic is nothing in Nashville compared to cities its size in the country, you want to see bad traffic drive around Metro Atlanta for a week then come back and complain.

Do you live here now?

When I lived near downtown Franklin, I worked in Cool Springs. Without traffic, ten minutes tops to get to my house from there. However, I never was able to experience that. I always had to leave at least 45 minutes early to get to work on time. Coming home would sometimes take over an hour. That was using the back streets and short cuts that only locals knew about. I received a DM from someone on here yesterday because I used to take Hillsboro Pike from my place to Nashville and the traffic wasn't bad at that time. Apparently that's changed now as well. It seems no matter where you live in Middle TN the traffic is bad. I still miss Tennessee, though. Will always have a special place in my heart. I do agree with the metro population traffic comments, though. I moved to Seattle and wow....made traffic in Nashville seem like nothing. Driving from North Puget Sound to South Puget Sound (normally 30 minutes with no traffic) would sometimes take me up to three hours. So, it's all in the perspective. Grab some coffee, leave early and enjoy the scenery while you wait :-)

Very debatable. Also, I'm not sure if you actually live here or you might take that back. I got onto Google Maps and set the "usual traffic" map for Tuesday at 5:30PM and compared Nashville with the metro areas ranked 2 spots above and 2 spots below us in population. San Jose technically should be included in this but I skipped over them because they have the runoff of all the other Bay Area congestion. No, we aren't LA or Atlanta, but this is how we "compare".

Take of it what you will.

Indianapolis: Ranked 33rd

(San Jose was 34th but we're not counting them)

Austin: 35th

Nashville: 36th

Providence: 37th

Virginia Beach-Norfolk: 38th
