This is what I do. I have no use for a landline and have a Verizon cell phone. I had Comcast Internet and cable because that was the only thing available in my neighborhood at the time. Recently AT&T U-verse is now available and I have switched to that.

Comcast was a nightmare! Both in service and in billing. I tried to take my equipment back to the Comcast office and there was over an hour wait there had to be at least 100 people there waiting to drop stuff off and cancel service. So instead I took it to one of the mailboxes/UPS places that accept it and send it back. When I called Comcast to cancel, The woman told me to wait for the final bill because I canceled during mid billing cycle, and then pay the adjusted bill. Those #{]}%* sent my account to collection before I ever received a bill to pay! Needless to say Comcast is on my list.

I will have to do the speed test and report back.

mee9mee9 - yes, Comcast has bundles of just internet and cable. Suspect lots of people are doing away with their landlines. Mine was costing $43 a month JUST for local calls and caller ID. Way too much money for the amount of time I used it and all the spam calls I received.

Does ANYONE have AT&T Uverse? Would be interested in the speed, customer service, etc. Thanks for sharing your speeds! Looks like I'm on track but certainly not the fastest!

Thanks N.Cal! I use a little known Comcast office on Columbia here in Franklin. So quiet that I have to wake the guy up when I go inside (just kidding).

How is the cost compared to Comcast? THAT is my biggest complaint is that they hook you with a low rate and then WHAM! I have had good response for the most part when I call about a problem.

I DID have an issue returning one of my boxes.

A friend of mine uses DISH here in Franklin (he lives in Franklin Green) and swears by it. He said he refers friends and gets a 'credit' on his bill when they sign up so it's pretty cheap.

MY concert about DISH in Middle TN is I would like to have local TV service during storms, and my neighbor has DISH and said she loses the signal during bad weather.

I'm paying around the same price but I have two more receivers than I did with Comcast. I had a rate with Comcast and after a year it jumped by a huge amount. I called to complain and they dropped it some. But I have been waiting for AT&T U-verse to come to my neighborhood ever since I moved into my house. I think it's quite telling that there were 100 people waiting to disconnect their Comcast service when I went to the office.

My dad had either direct TV or dish but ended up hating it and switching back to their local cable service. Expensive, didn't get the specific sport channels he wanted.

Maybe some hope in H'ville. Millstone, a new subdivision being built on Saundersville Rd. has U-Verse and the town home section comes standard with U-Verse.

No problem with Comcast . . and it seems like that entire outage just got swept under the rug . . it was VERY widespread all over the country. Did they ever figure out what happened???

Comcast also offers internet only. I've been on that for at least 3 years. One of the secrets is buy your own cable modem, because it will pay for itself in less than a year. With Comcast phone service, you have to rent a modem from them for the phone service.

We have TDS fiber and have been super happy with them, but service in the Nashville area is very limited.
