I put this here because this was announced on Nashville Channel 4 this morning.

Channel four is Meredith Corp, now they will be owned by Media General who owns Channel Two, according to Holly Thompson's comment.

I am sure everyone at both stations is wondering what this will ultimately mean for each of them, regarding job security.

Reading thru this article, it is full of all the standard/scripted hype words, whenever a company is sold, I mean merged, with another bigger company.

Hmm. One conglomerate owns the only major newspaper here, and now another owns half the local TV network affiliates.

I noticed that they own three stations in Portland. I wonder if it makes any difference. It's mostly weather, a crime log and car dealership ads.

My kids say only old people (like me) watch TV news anyway.

WSMV said on air that one of the two stations will have to be divested because of FCC rules.

I caught that, too.

It will probably be the station with the lowest ratings and that might mean some folks will find themselves unemployed and being replaced.

I have been thru two plant closings in my lifetime. It was not fun, wondering when my turn was coming for the axe, yet I was expected to do my job at 110%

Even though I don't care for some of the folks on both stations, I don't want to see anyone lose their jobs unless it's their own choice.

I'm sure the nerves of everyone are on edge and I hate that for all involved.

"Only old people watch the news", lollol. I was in my 40's when I realized I had become my dad; I told my son to be quiet, I wanted to hear the news and he needed to hear it too, lollol

Mercy how I hated having to sit still, as a child, and listen to the 6:00 PM news. Dad made me listen every night because I "might learn something".

Channel 2 is the ABC affiliate, owned by Disney

Channel 4 is the NBC affiliate, owned by Comcast

AFAIK we only have 5 stations in town.
