To bring a little levity to this otherwise awful event:

Mayor Briley was visiting the victims who are still in the hospital. When he asked one of them if there's anything he could do for her, she reportedly asked if he could do something about the potholes on I-440.

I think that's something all sides can agree on.

The potholes are like livestock. You're not supposed to name them or else you'll grow fond of them.

Just to be clear, the shooter and his family are from Illinois, not Indiana. There is no mention of Indiana in the article that was linked.

It's not unusual to call off a chase if it might lead to innocent people on the road getting killed. A woman was carjacked at gunpoint Tuesday morning at the Walgreen's in Brentwood, and the police stopped the chase before catching that guy too. That may have been Metro police, I'm not sure what side of the county line that Walgreens is on. But either way, it's not that unusual for police to stop a car chase if it becomes too dangerous for the traffic.
