Can anyone help me with how to make distinctions between what is East, West, South, and North Nashville areas. I can make some subtle distinctions but don't quite have it down pact. Any help is great. Thanks

One thing that makes it a little more difficult to describe these boundaries is that Nashville/Davidson County has been consolidated since the early 60's, and therefore the old city limits no longer apply. It was a little easier to say what was west Nashville, or north Nashville, within the old city limits.

Here's a rough, general guide.

First, look at a map of Nashville similar to this: http://www.google.com/maps?q=Nashvil...i=map&ct=title (you might want to zoom in a little)

Imagine downtown as the center of a clock, and going clockwise . . . from the Cumberland River to the west around to about I-65 South could be consider "west"; from I-65 South swinging around to I-40 East would be "south"; from I-40 East around to I-65 North would be "east"; from I-65 North back over to the river would be "north". Now, this isn't exact (nor does it strictly follow the compass directions), and some people would put the boundaries of the various areas slightly different, but it should give you a reasonable idea of what most people in Nashville would consider north, east, south, and west.

Does that help a little?

That's as good of a description as any IMO.

I was thoroughly confused until I realized you meant counter-clockwise, not clockwise.

You're exactly right. I'm surprised no one noticed until now.

Thanks for pointing it out. I would edit my post, but, of course, I can't now.

This link's only slightly related to the original post, but it's a great map of Nashville neighborhoods:
